Alice
Foster Zimmerman
Schooled in private art schools and an award winning artist in other
mediums, Alice grew up next door to her maternal grandmother, Ruth Youse
Sparrow. Besides raising chickens, Ruth was an accomplished artist in
various mediums, and was also a studio glass artist specializing in
church windows. When the time came that Alice decided to leave
her "day job" as a counselor for the Arizona Department of
Corrections - Juvenile Division, glass work was a natural choice. She
began designing and building custom panels and architectural art glass
around 1975, and opened a retail store teaching classes and selling
supplies in 1978. The retail store was closed in 1998 and Alice "retired."
Alice has won numerous awards for her artistry in glass and continues
to design and fabricate select custom work from her home in Vernonia,
Oregon.
